With racing at Belmont Park coming to a close for the time being, attention shifts to New York’s Saratoga Racetrack which will host the Diana Stakes as part of a major card this coming weekend. All details about the morning line and race information can be found below. A full field of ten will compete, headlined by Wakeela and Miss Temple City.
Miss Temple City has been selected as the 3/1 favorite at the Diana Stakes for obvious reasons. She is perhaps the most well known horse in the bunch, and is the first female to ever win the Makers’ 46 Mile where she beat the boys just a couple months ago. Most recently, she traveled to Royal Ascot to try her hand against the top European mares at the Duke of Cambridge but fell to fourth.
Wakeela seems like the more intriguing play between the two. The 7/2 second choice came second at both the Gamely Stakes and the Jenny Wiley. She was upset at the former, but was a respectable runner-up to Tepin at the latter. There’s no shame in either of those performances and the coupling with trainer Chad Brown has paid off massive dividends since the four-year old filly moved over from France.
Chad Brown will also submit Dacita as the fourth choice with 5/1 odds in the Diana Stakes. The five-year old daughter of Scat Daddy is a daring play in this race, but she has come on strong in a late blooming racing career. She recently won the New York after placing 4th at the Jenny Wiley and second at The Very One. Dacita has only been in five races over the last year, and has already won two of them. She claimed a victory in her debut at the Ballston Spa last August and is easily worth consideration as a show play.
Rounding out the list of top choices is Recepta, who will tout 9/2 odds as the third choice. The James Toner trainee is fresh off a runner-up placing at the Just A Game. She also finished third at the Beaugay and 5th at the Jenny Wiley. There’s no doubt that she is trending upwards. Could the Diana Stakes be her breakout party?
Any decision between the four will be a safe way to invest your hard earned money this weekend. My preferences are Wekeela and Miss Temple City but it wouldn’t take much to convince me that Dacita is a great play as well. An exacta box with those three would entice me unless you have specific feelings about Recepta at the Diana Stakes this weekend.
