Just 5 Juvenile Fillies Scheduled for 6 Furlong Lynbrook Stakes
The biggest races of the weekend are the $750,000 Delaware Handicap (G1) and $500,000 Indiana Derby (G3). But on closing day of the Spring/Summer Meet at Belmont Sunday, the fourth running of the $100,000 Lynbrook Stakes will feature a field of five New York-bred juvenile fillies.
I Still Miss You (1-1) is 2-for-2 for trainer Jeremiah Englehart after winning the Astoria Stakes at Big Sandy. She won on the front end in both her wins, and will now try to hold off the challenge of Pure Silver (9-5) as they both race up front. I Still Miss You fired a 4 furlong bullet of 46.21 at Belmont July 9, the best of 61 at the distance that day. While I Still Miss You gets favoritism, another Englehart entry Missbigtimes (5-1) gets in at a little lighter weight of 117 pounds and could close hard with the expected speed up front. Missbigtimes finished a distant 3rd to Pure Silver in her maiden debut here June 22 when Pure Silver wired the field going 5 ½ furlongs. Trainer Todd Pletcher breezed Pure Silver back easy July 9 and she’ll be leading the way with John Velazquez aboard.
One Last Call, also trained by Pletcher, and Gary Contessa-trained Northern Street Gal are both 12-1. Northern Street Gal broke poorly and finished 5th in her debut on the turf July 1, and Contessa brings her back quickly on the dirt after she fired a 3 furlong bullet in 36.25 today, July 14.
The Lynbrook Stakes is race 4 on Sunday, July 16 with post time at 3:09 ET and is the final stakes race of the Belmont Spring/Summer meet.
